This week:
Year 5 took part in an engineering workshop at Haydock Park on Wednesday where they worked in teams to build and operate a crane that demonstrates how gears, pulleys, pneumatics and hydraulics work!! The pupils then got time to explore the crane convention and were given lots of ‘freebies’ from various stands which they loved. It looks like they had an amazing day!

The pupils from Year 6 have completed their SATs this week. The attitude of all the pupils has been excellent and they have approached the tests with maturity and resilience. Well done to them all. We will wait for the results on 7th July.

Some Year 2 pupils have taken part in a multi-skills event at Lansbury Bridge school.

Next week:
Year 6 Some pupils and staff leave for Paris on Sunday evening (returning Thursday evening) and the other pupils have a week of fun activities planned in school. We feel sure a good time will be had at home and abroad.

Well done to the two teams who took part in the Quicksticks Hockey tournament last Friday afternoon. They played superbly well!
Well done to the 12 Year 5 pupils who took part in an athletics tournament at Haydock High. They all gave 100% effort in their chosen events in track and field.

This week:
Year 6 pupils and staff have been very busy preparing for their SATs which take place next week. All of the Year 6 pupils have had an excellent attitude to revision and really have given their very best efforts in recent weeks. We hope that their hard work and positive attitude is rewarded with the results that they deserve.
Today, some Year 6 pupils are taking part in a football match against St Bartholomew’s. This is taking place at Rainhill High School. Good luck to all the team!

Next week:
Year 6 will be taking their SATs Monday – Thursday. Please can all our Year 6 children arrive at school in good time and take advantage of the tea and toast on offer (from 8.30 am).
On Wednesday there will be a STEM Day at Haydock Park for our Year 5 children.
On Friday some of our Year 2 children will take part in a multi skills event at Lansbury Bridge.

Paris On Sunday 17 May children from Year 6 will be setting out on their exciting trip to Paris. We wish all children and staff a wonderful time. Children are to meet at school at 9.30pm.

This week:

Tuesday A huge well done to Sophie Fanning, Libby Statham, Scott Honey and Keane Elms who played in the tennis tournament beating ALL their opponents apart from just one, resulting in a brilliant second place. We are very proud of them.

Wednesday A huge well done to Tommy Murray, Keane Elms, Aaron Oates, Scott Honey, Jack McLenaghan, Ben Smith-Yates, Daniel Mower and Keegan Colquitt for a great team performance in the football tournament at Everton’s training ground, Finch Farm. They did not make it through to the final at Goodison Park but should be very proud of beating so many other St Helens schools to reach the tournament. Thanks to Vinny Colquitt for coaching the team on the day at short notice!

Friday Twelve Year 5 children are taking part in an Athletics Tournament at Haydock High School and 8 pupils from Year 6 are also taking part in a Hockey Tournament at De la Salle.

Next week:
There will be no school on Monday as it is the May Day Bank Holiday.
Thursday Election Day. The Thompson Centre is being used as a Polling Station so please be aware it will be busy with members of the public.
Friday Some Y6 pupils are in a football match against St Barts’ at Rainhill High School.

This week:
Parents’ Evenings took place this week. Thank you to all the families who attended and to those who completed the questionnaire. We hope you found this a useful opportunity to find out more about the learning and progress of your child.

Next week:
Monday Premier Sport will be visiting school today and will spend 30-40 minutes with each Year 1 – Year 4 class.

Tuesday 1.30pm The Achievement and Standards Committee of the governing body will meet.

Wednesday During the evening eight Year 6 children will take part in a Quiz Night at Haydock High School. Easter Bingo event 6pm – 8pm Please bring your tickets with you on the evening. There are a few tickets left if anyone would like to come along please see Miss Burrows in school.

Thursday School closes for the Easter Holiday at the normal time.

Late News Last week 10 children from Year 5 and 6 competed against other St Helens Schools in a Tri-golf tournament at Sutton High. They played extremely well gaining an extremely high score and coming third overall. Well done to the children involved.

Children attending our nursery for a morning session can access wrap-around care within the setting over the lunchtime period and for the afternoon The cost of this session will be £10.50 per day. These children can also access breakfast club (£3.50) and after school club (£7) which means provision from 8am until 5.30pm if parents require it. Please let school know if you require this provision in September for your child in nursery.

The school website has been updated with lots of great resources to support Year 6 mathematics. They can be found by logging onto the website www.allansonstreetprimary.co.uk and going through: Kids Zone / Year 6 / Homework. Please take a look!

Thank you once again for the generous support for Comic Relief. We sent a cheque for £740 which will be doubled by the government to raise an amazing £1480. Well done!

This week:

Tuesday Our Year 3 children visited Liverpool Anglican Cathedral as part of our cultural pathway. The children had a great day taking part in workshops and having a look around this amazing building.

Wednesday PCSOs visited school to speak to our Nursery and Reception children.

Friday Year 3 children spent all day at Haydock High School to take part in a ‘Health Day’. The children rotated through a number of workshops and have hopefully learning some important ‘healthy’ lessons.

Next week:
Parents’ Evenings are scheduled for Monday 23 – Wednesday 25th March. You should have now received your appointment times. We look forward to seeing you next week.

Friends of Allanson Street’
Thank you to the parents, grandparents and staff who attended the meeting this week. The group recently invited staff to put in requests for funding for classroom resources and have decided to give £300 to each year group to support these requests. We look forward to receiving news about how the money has been spent. The group has sent out details of Easter Bingo. Please return ticket requests as soon as possible as this event will sell out quickly!

Monday: We hope you have been listening to our Year 5 children who have been featuring on WISH FM’s ‘Little Lyrics’ programme every day this week. Well done to all the children.

Tuesday: Well done to the Year 5 football team who played in a tournament at Ruskin Drive on Tuesday afternoon. They played superbly. Thank you to Ryan Fitzgerald’s dad for coaching the team for the afternoon and to the parents who came along to cheer on the team.
Year 5RH enjoyed an afternoon doing some Drama activities at St Cuthbert’s High School.

Thursday Thank you to all the female family members who came to take part in a craft afternoon to celebrate Mothers’ Day. A wonderful afternoon was had by all!

Friday: Comic Relief Day! We are having a ‘Make Your Face Funny For Money’ non-uniform day. What a variety we have seen! Red noses, face paint, wigs, hats, false glasses, false moustaches just about anything! All money raised this year is being doubled by the Government so thank you for all the support you have given. We have raised £540 from selling Red Noses and over £200 by ‘Making your Face Funny for Money’.
This afternoon 10 Year 6 children have competed in a Tri-Golf tournament. Well done to all children involved. We will let you know how they got on next week.

Next Week

Tuesday Year 3 will enjoy a Cultural Trip to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.

Wednesday Friends of Allanson Street meet 3.30pm New members welcome to come along.

Friday Year 3 children will go to Haydock High School to take part in a ‘Health Day’.

In February the School Council launched a competition for the children to design a litter poster. The following children have been chosen as the winners and they got to choose a book from the Book Fair. Congratulations to: Dylan Cave, Hannah Nield (Upper Juniors), Megan Duckworth, Alex Jonkers (Lower Juniors), Lily Owen and Isabelle Cross (Infants).

This week:
Monday:
WISH FM came into school to record ‘Little Lyrics’ with five pupils. Our Year 5 children will feature on WISH FM’s ‘Little Lyrics’ every day next week: Monday Jessica Dailey, Tuesday Jacob Ratcliffe, Wednesday Paige Dunne, Thursday Kieron Jackson and Friday Scott Honey. Tune in just after 8 am to hear them, and you could win some great prizes if you guess the lyric correctly.

Tuesday: A huge ‘Well Done’ to the Year 1 football team who played in a tournament on Tuesday afternoon. They played brilliantly!! Many thanks to the parents who turned up to show their support. I am sure you will agree they all looked fabulous in their new kit!

Many parents of Year 6 children attended a meeting to discuss arrangements for the Year 6 trip to Paris this summer.

Wednesday Five children from Year 4 took part in a Gymnastics competition. They performed their routines fantastically well. They even got to meet Beth Tweddle (Olympic medalist) who spent time having photos with the children and signing autographs.

Thursday: The choir went to the Phones4U arena in Manchester to take part in the Young Voices Concert. They had a fabulous afternoon and evening. This was a brilliant opportunity for our choir to perform as part of a 7000 strong choir and it was an amazing opportunity for them. A big thank you to all the families who came to see the performance and to cheer the children on, it was great to have you all there.
Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Knowsley Safari Park. The children had a great day and their behavior was excellent. This visit will have inspired them for the rest of their project work this term.

Friday: World Book Day: We held a non uniform day for World Book Day. The children came to school dressed as a book character or in pyjamas ready for a bedtime story! The children looked brilliant and have had a great day taking part in a range fun book activities. Thank you for the time and effort that has been put into some amazing costumes.

Comic Relief: Thank you for your support in buying our Red Noses for Comic Relief. Unfortunately we have already sold out but more are on order and will hopefully, be here soon!
Next Week

Scholastic Book Fair will be in school until Thursday. Please come along to see the books on offer. The Book Fair will be open each morning from 8.30 am and afternoon from 3.15 pm

Monday After school there is a meeting for Year 5 parents to share teaching materials for the SRE curriculum this term.
Tuesday During the afternoon Y5RH will go to St Cuthbert’s to take part in a Drama lesson
A football tournament will take place at Ruskin Drive for some Year 5 children
Wednesday The photographer will be in school to take Year Group and Team photos.
Thursday A football tournament will take place at Ruskin Drive for some Year 2 children
During the afternoon any female relation of children in Years 1 and 2 have been invited to come along to an afternoon of craft activities to celebrate Mothers’ Day! Letters with more information have been sent out separately.
Friday This is Comic Relief Day! We are having a ‘Make Your Face Funny For Money’ non-uniform day with a suggested donation of 50p to go to Comic Relief. Children are invited to come to school in their own clothes and to give themselves a funny face. (red noses, face paint, wigs, hats, false glasses, false moustaches just about anything!). All money raised this year is being doubled by the Government so please help us raise as much as possible.
10 Year 6 children will go to Sutton High School to take part in a Tri-Golf Tournament with Mrs Hawkins.

Assessment Week Next week is assessment week for all the children so please make sure they are in school every day if possible so they do not miss any important assessment tasks or tests. Parents’ evenings are scheduled for Monday 23 – Wednesday 25th March. Letter will be sent out on Monday to request appointment times.

Window Replacement Programme: The new windows are still being installed. Please take extra care on the playground and pathways with the fencing, vans and workmen when you collect children at the end of the day. Thanks.

CCTV During the half term holiday we upgraded our CCTV system. The system is designed for the purpose of safety and crime prevention. All entry/ exit gates to school are now included on the system as well as the internal reception areas of school and The Thompson Centre. Our surveillance camera policy will be available on our website from next week.
