Art and Design

Through Art and Design, we encourage children to take a closer look at the world around them.

At Allanson Street, we believe that art and design is a very important part of the curriculum we offer our children. Not only does it stimulate creativity and imagination, it also provides children with visual, tactile and sensory experiences. It enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and a wide range of materials and processes. Perhaps most importantly, it gives many children a chance to have real hands-on, messy fun and an opportunity to truly shine.

Children are given many opportunities to inform their art work with the influence of famous artists by looking at the work of a diverse range of painters, sculptors and designers. Throughout their time at Allanson Street all children will have the opportunity to visit an art gallery and many will also work with a professional artist.

Art is a subject which lends itself easily to cross-curricular links and thus it is taught not only as a subject in its own right but also as a means to develop other areas of the curriculum.
